About Mandt Community Center, Inc.

History

The Mandt Community Center Inc. (MCCI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed on November 23, 1992, through a collaborative effort by Stoughton Junior Fair (SJF), Stoughton Youth Hockey Inc. (SYH), and dedicated community members. The vision was clear: create a facility that would serve as both a community center and an ice arena, operated independently by a local board of directors.

The City of Stoughton played an important role in the planning process, requiring approval from multiple committees and the city council. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers and supporters, the project was approved, and the Mandt Community Center officially opened its doors in April 1994.

Growth and Improvements

In March 2014, MCCI completed a major upgrade project to ensure the facility remained modern and efficient. Improvements included:

  • Replacing the mechanical components of the ice-making system

  • Installing a dehumidification system to regulate building climate

  • Replacing the glycol solution used in ice production

Independent Ownership and Operation

Unlike many community facilities, the Mandt Community Center is not owned by the City of Stoughton. It is proudly operated by MCCI, an independent nonprofit board, with no city funding for operations. All expenses are covered through revenue generated by facility use and generous community donations.

While Stoughton Youth Hockey and Stoughton Junior Fair are key users of the facility, they do not hold ownership. The building is owned and managed by MCCI.

Governance

The Center is guided by two leadership groups:

  • Board of Trustees (5 members):

    • Two community members

    • Current President of MCCI

    • President of Stoughton Fair (or representative)

    • President of Stoughton Youth Hockey (or representative)

Trustees oversee the election of Board Members.

  • Board of Directors (5 members):

    • One representative from Stoughton Youth Hockey

    • One representative from Stoughton Junior Fair

    • Three at-large community representatives elected by the Trustees

Our Mission

The mission of the Mandt Community Center is to serve the Stoughton community by providing ice time for sports and recreation, as well as a welcoming space for community events. Conveniently located just 20 minutes from Madison, the Center is proud to host local traditions and offer a premier venue for youth hockey leagues and tournaments.

Our Vision

The Mandt Community Center is more than a building; it’s a symbol of community collaboration and independence. By operating as a nonprofit, free from city ownership, we ensure that decisions are made locally with the community’s best interests in mind. Our ice arena is a point of pride, serving as a hub for youth hockey and recreation, while our proximity to Madison makes us a regional destination for events that strengthen Stoughton’s economy and showcase its unique charm.
